A couple of weeks ago, I listened to a podcast by Kjell Enhanger were he quoted Byron Katie. She asks who’s business are you focusing on, and she says that there are only three kinds of business in the universe: mine, yours and God’s. This is how she explains it on her website:
There are only three kinds of business in the universe: mine, yours, and God’s.
Whose business is it if an earthquake happens? God’s business.
Whose business is it if your neighbour down the street has an ugly lawn? Your neighbours’ business.
Whose business is it if you are angry at your neighbour down the street because he has an ugly lawn? Your business.
Life is simple—it is internal.
Count, in five minute intervals, how many times you are in someone else’s business mentally. Notice when you give uninvited advice or offer your opinion about something (aloud or silently).
Ask yourself: “Am I in their business? Did they ask me for my advice?” And more importantly, “Can I take the advice I am offering and apply it to my life?”
One thing that I used to worried about, when it came to photo sessions, was the weather. Which as you by now know is God’s business and NOTHING that I can do anything about. What I can do and say is this. The quick and simple answer is that it doesn’t matter when you have your session. We will work something out, we will create a fun and long lasting memory regardless of the weather. It’s with photography like with everything else, if we are all waiting for the perfect moment, the year when we feel beautiful and fit, the year when the kids want to have a photo shoot, the year when the house is done up, the year when it is only sunny and blue skye ….then we will wait forever.
I meet Tina in December at a Christmas event we were both attending with our business. Tina is and independent Arbonne consultant and recently moved to Jersey, and when she saw my stall she came over and said, I want you to capture my family, can we do it before Christmas. She did the discover that so many of us do, when we go home and look at family pictures. There are hardly any of us with mum or dad as they where always holding the camera, or ripped the copy as it wasn’t a good one. So her brief was simple, she wanted family pictures capturing her and her husband having a great time with the kids.
We didn’t wait for summer, we didn’t wait for the perfect blue sky or the perfect sunset, we didn’t wait for a day when everyone was up for it. We planned it and used our skills as parents to make it happen whatever the weather and what ever the mood, and what a good thing we did, becuase by the time we headed down to the beach it was pouring down.
And because of the weather, because of the cold, because of the rain we had a brilliant time, we all relaxed, we all loosened up, we all had fun, and I love the result!!
Thank you for choosing me Tina!!
Thank you Gisela,
We now have two fantastic collages that decorate walls in our family room and kitchen. They are admired by everyone and are valued assets for our family to keep forever and will be more valuable to us as we grow older together. xx Tina
